James Rodriguez's arrival at Everton left a lot of people confused and unconvinced in England, with the Colombian having spent a year sitting on the bench at Real Madrid and, at times, not even making matchday squads.
Not many people around English football believed that James had what was needed to succeed in a league like the Premier League, but he hasn't taken long to win those same sceptics over.
Now, almost the entirety of the Premier League and its followers in the media are bowing down to James' excellence.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti never held any doubts about his ability, having worked with the player at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich previously, as well as trying to reunite with him at Napoli just one year ago.
"His quality allows him to play easily," Ancelotti said after Everton's win over Brighton, in which James scored twice.
"His game isn't complicated because when he has space he uses his quality to pass and when he doesn't have space because he's being pressed he makes simple passes."
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been one of the greatest beneficiaries of James' arrival, with the Everton forward now topping the Premier League scoring charts on six goals.
"James is a first class player," Calvert-Lewin said.
"You can see the quality he has when he has the ball.
"He draws people in and makes room for other players on the pitch.
"As a centre forward, he creates chances for you and that's all you can ask for."
Everton and Ireland captain Seamus Coleman is another who has enjoyed teaming up with the former Real Madrid player.
"There was definitely a sense of calm and these great players bring that," Coleman said describing a pass James played to set up a goal.
"James has been there and done it all at such a high level.
"So, as you've seen, he's calm when choosing passes in the final third."
Former Tottenham forward Darren Bent was one of those most critical of James' arrival, but he has since been converted to being a fan of the Colombian.
"You know what?" Bent said, "I'm going to raise my hands here.
"I was one of the ones who said that James would have to fight really hard in the Premier League.
"I apologise to James Rodriguez and to Everton fans."
Another ex-Tottenham player, Jermaine Jenas, also had kind words.
"He has a star quality," Jenas said.
"What was talked about when he arrived was whether he'd be in shape or not, but he has an ability to see things before they happen.
"He has that class."
Even World Cup winner Cafu has joined in those lavishing the Colombia international with praise.
"I've always thought the James is fantastic," Cafu explained.
"He showed it in Spain and Germany. Now he'll do it in the Premier League."
Dimitar Berbatov is another ex-player who enjoyed a spell at Spurs and Manchester United before sharing a dressing room with James at Monaco.
"He seems a new man at Everton," Berbatov commented.
"When you join a new club you can often feel inspired and that's how he was when he first went to Real Madrid.
"Now he's the same at Everton.
"I know it's only been a short time, but what he's done so far has been incredible."
