Crystal Palace 'table improved £23m bid for CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov'

Crystal Palace have reportedly made an improved offer of £23million for CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov.

The Eagles had a £14m bid rejected for the 21-year-old over a week ago and were told to raise their initial offer.

And according to Sky Sports, the London side have returned with a new bid that they hope will tempt Chalov into negotiations.

Palace's swoop for the Russian youngster comes as part of boss Roy Hodgson's attempts to add some much needed firepower to his side's attacking arsenal.

The new offer has been tabled with just a day remaining to hash out any further negotiations, with doubts remaining over current strikers Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham.

A Russian international, having been capped for the first time this year, Chalov netted 17 times for CSKA last season - including the opener in the Russian side's surprise 3-0 victory at Real Madrid.

Palace may view the transfer as a matter of urgency, following the news that star winger Wilfried Zaha had handed in a transfer request.

It is believed that the 26-year-old is attempting to force through a move to Everton, although Palace are unlikely to ship out a key player without having secured a replacement beforehand.

The London outfit had also been locked in talks with Brentford front man Ollie Watkins, although it is believed the top flight side are set to walk away from negotiations.
