DO: Man Utd's move in summer will not be "wild"; head coach position is priority

Recently, renowned The Athletic journalist David Ornstein spoke to Sky Sports about Manchester United’s potential moves in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ornstein said: “Manchester United’s summer transfer window may not be as ‘wild’ as some expect, but the club still faces numerous pressing issues that need addressing.

“The central midfield area is a top priority, especially following Casemiro’s confirmed departure—which has led United to be consistently linked with players like Elliott Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba.

“After missing out on Antoine Semenyo, the left-sided attacking position has also become a key focus, with both Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho set to leave this summer.

“In defense, Harry Maguire’s future remains uncertain. This is the final year of his contract, and with no news of an extension, he is expected to depart at the end of the season as planned. The center-back position remains a critical area for reinforcement.

“The appointment of a new head coach—potentially Michael Carrick or another candidate—will be one of the biggest stories of 2026. Early signs under Carrick have sparked hope among fans and within the club. Although it’s still very much in its infancy, as always, actions will speak louder than words.”
