Tottenham transfer news: Spurs are looking to fulfill a long-term goal of theirs by adding Lloyd Kelly to their squad on deadline day.

Tottenham are rapidly approaching the end of what has been one of their most remarkable summers in recent memory. One that started at the end of last season with all hope wiped out from the fanbase has seen a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs across the past three months.

Despite doing well to give Ange Postecoglou a squad he can work with there is still plenty to be done to trim the edges with Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg amongst those that are out of favour. With the defence taking on such a massive transition including a new goalkeeper, both full-backs making debuts in the past eight months and Micky van de Ven arriving earlier this summer, there is still a desire to secure a back-up.

The 24-year-old saw a £20million ($24m) bid rejected for him on deadline day as Andoni Iraola looks to keep one of the key figures in his defence. Kelly, who moved to the south coast from Bristol City for £13million ($16m) in 2019, was vital to the Cherries getting promoted two years ago and played 23 of their matches last term to help them survive as well.

Plagued by injury in the past 12 months, the left-footed ace continues to look good in the top flight having developed at the club under Scott Parker and Gary O'Neill. Now, duty calls and Spurs are trying to ensure they add depth and quality to their squad in key areas.

In this sense if Tottenham can secure a deal for less than £30million ($38m) then they would be getting decent enough value for their money. This is a 24-year-old left-footed player with Premier League experience and is homegrown, they don't come cheap anymore.

Considering it is deadline day as well, Bournemouth are not going to want to part with their player at this stage either which could see their demands go up markedly in the final hours.

If something can be finalised then it would be a smart piece of business by Tottenham but even then it could represent an overpayment due to poor planning earlier in the window.
