Darren Bent claims Kane is not among top FIVE strikers of Premier League era

Harry Kane's electric start to 2020-21 isn't enough to convince Darren Bent of the Spurs star's spot among the greats, insisting Wayne Rooney was better in his prime.

The Englishman has roared into life with six goals and eight assists in his opening seven Premier League matches this season, linking up with Son Heung-min to show-off his skills as a provider alongside his lethal finishing.

At 27  and already boasting 149 goals, Kane is on-course to finish his career among the greatest goalscorers the English top-flight has seen - with Wayne Rooney's 208 and Alan Shearer's 260 strikes in his sights.

However, Bent argues Kane still has to bank a few more years at the top before he can be considered equal with the Manchester Unite icon.

'He's certainly got the potential - if he carries on on this path - to be one of the greats,' the former Sunderland striker told talkSPORT.

'I don't think I put him in the top five yet. Longevity has to play a part.

'He's got 149 Premier League goals in 213 games, which is extraordinary. But when you look at the all-round package of what he does, when Wayne Rooney was at his absolute maximum, you can't tell me Kane is better.

'It's only now we're starting to see the full package with Kane. You think about all the positions Rooney got asked to play. He played everywhere.

'You forget how good he was. So to say Harry Kane is the best English centre-forward, I don't think so.

'I'm a big fan of Kane and he's one of those strikers where every time they get the ball around the box you're thinking it's a goal.

'Potentially Kane could be the best but if you're looking at the full package, holding the ball up, bringing others into play, technique... you can't beat Rooney.'
