Legendary England midfielder David Beckham was welcomed into the Three Lions' training camp by Gareth Southgate ahead of their game with Senegal.

Beckham, 47, won 115 caps and scored 17 goals during his international career which spanned from 1996-2009.

He captained his national side from 2000-2006, and featured at five major tournaments for the Three Lions - the 1998 World Cup, Euro 2000, the 2002 World Cup, Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup, before playing for the last time in a 2010 World Cup qualifying game against Belarus.

And, ahead of England's Round of 16 clash with Senegal which Southgate's side won 3-0 thanks to goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, Beckham visited the current squad.

During the visit to England's Al-Wakrah training base, Beckham met with Southgate, where the Three Lions boss presented the former skipper with his England legacy shirt.

Southgate could be seen to be talking the former midfielder about the legacy cap numbers, before revealing to Beckham that his number was 1078.

The 47-year-old seemed delighted to have received his legacy shirt, before he spoke with players such as Callum Wilson, James Maddison, Declan Rice, Harry Maguire, Mason Mount, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka - who even asked Beckham for a photo.

He was also filmed talking through set-piece delivery with Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Beckham enjoyed several highlights during his England career, including his iconic free-kick against Greece in the final moments of a qualifying match to ensure the Three Lions qualified the 2002 World Cup.

And current England captain Kane reflected on Beckham's visit to the camp and explained how it was a childhood dream to have him there.

He told The Lions Den: 'He (Beckham) was here the other day so we had a good chat. He was my biggest idol growing up. He was probably one of our best captains.

'I probably don’t ask questions about games or how it felt, it’s more just getting to know his experiences and how he feels about our team and what he sees in our team.

'He’s really excited for his national side. He loves watching us play. It’s great to have support from ex-players.

'They know how it means to represent the country. They are all part of the team.'

Kane also insisted that he is enjoying every minute out in Qatar and said he was confident England could go all the way.

He added: 'We’ve got three more games to go if we want to win the World Cup. We’re recovering really well, preparing well and I think it’s whoever handles that well is going to be champions of the world.

'We know what it takes, we’ve been there before in 2018, we’re facing a really good team on Saturday but the boys are feeling really good and we want to carry that on.

'To win a World Cup, you’re going to have to play the best sides and France are definitely one of those. We have belief.

'We know what to expect, we are not getting carried away but we know it’s a chance to play in a World Cup semi-final.'

Beckham is currently out in Qatar, where he has received criticism over reports he signed a deal worth £150million over 10 years to be the face of the 2022 World Cup and an ambassador for the state, despite their poor human rights record and attitudes towards women and the LGBTQ+ community.

England face France in the quarter-finals of the World Cup at the Al Bayt Stadium at 7pm (GMT) on Saturday.
