David Silva leaves Lazio 'furious' after dramatic transfer U-turn to join Real Sociedad

David Silva has reportedly left Lazio chiefs furious after the Spaniard performed a dramatic U-turn to sign for Real Socieded.

The Man City legend was in talks over a switch to the Serie A giants and looked to be on his way.

However Sociedad confirmed on social media they had landed Silva's services on Monday on a free transfer.

Silva was a free agent after allowing his contract to run down at The Etihad, and even snubbed the chance to stay with City next season.

But rather than join title-chasing Lazio - who aso qualified for the Champions League - the 34-year-old instead opted to return to La Liga after a decade away.

This has angered Lazio who were convinced Silva was set to sign for them, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The midfielder had been offered a deal worth £3.6m per season with a number of other bonuses thrown in, such as access to a private jet for personal use.

And Silva allegedly did not even tell Lazio he was not going to accept their offer before his Sociedad switch was announced.

Silva's father, Fernando, had even hinted his son was due to head to Italy after stating: "I can confirm that he likes the Italian league and would really enjoy playing in Italy.

"He told me he could play there until he's 40 years old."

Fernando even revealed his wish was for David to move to the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile was seemingly under the impression Silva's switch was already a done deal.

"Great player and great experience," Immobile said. "We are waiting for him with open arms.

"I can't wait for him to arrive, before Lazio players we are Lazio fans."

But Socieded left Lazio stunned when they announced Silva's signing on their Twitter page late on Monday night.

They had already teased his arrival by posting an image of Silva jumping over some hurdles during training, but only the bottom half of his legs were visible.

Fans were quick to suspect it was the former City star, and their suspicions were confirmed soon after.

On the same day Man City announced they would be honouring Silva with a statue outside their stadium following his trophy-laden spell with the club.

Silva won 11 major trophies whilst with City, including four Premier League title and two FA Cups.
