David de Gea has taken a break from his arduous football schedule by enjoying a spot of lunch with his fiancee on Friday afternoon in Cheshire.

The Manchester United goalkeeper enjoyed some food at La Famiglia restaurant with his fiancee, Edurne Garcia Almagro, in Hale Village before heading back to his £160,000 Aston Martin.

De Gea enjoyed some quality downtime following his big error in the Champions League against Barcelona on Tuesday as United went crashing out at the quarter-final stage.

The Red Devils goalkeeper let Lionel Messi's second goal slip through his grasp and squirm into the back of the net at the Nou Camp, as United went on to lose 3-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate.

According to the Sun, De Gea claimed United could have won the tie had it not been for his error.

The 28-year-old, who has attracted heavy interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain thanks to his fine form through the years, also apologised to his team-mates at full-time in the dressing room.

De Gea will be desperate to make up for his gaffe when United face Everton away on Sunday at Goodison Park in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side currently sit sixth in the Premier League, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the pursuit of a Champions League spot.

United have five games remaining to claim their place among Europe's elite next season.

And following the clash with Everton, they face neighbours Manchester City, Chelsea, Huddersfield and Cardiff.
