Spanish Keeper David De Gea Wins 3 Consecutive Man Utd Player of the Month Awards.

David De Gea has retained his Manchester United Player of the Month crown, after dominating the poll to determine January’s outstanding Red. It means the in-form Spaniard has now claimed the prize across three successive months.

The no.1 goalie was the clear favorite in the fan vote, gaining 67 per cent of the vote, ahead of Scott McTominay (12 per cent), Bruno Fernandes (11 per cent) and Anthony Elanga (10 per cent).

De Gea made five appearances during the first month of 2022 and kept two clean sheets, which was enough to earn him the nod, despite the impressive efforts of McTominay and co.

David De Gea made 22 saves across Man Utd four league games in January and, at the time of writing, no other Premier League goalkeeper has made more saves so far in 2021/22.

It means David now has three POTM awards for the season, which puts him one ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who claimed the award in September and October.

De Gea is also the first Red to claim Player of the Month prizes in three consecutive months since United started keeping the records in 2016.

However, it should be noted that Brunodes Fernan did win the award in February, March and June of 2020 – a sequence that was interrupted due to the Covid-enforced pause in the 2019/20 season.

De Gea is also climbing the club’s all-time clean sheets list. He currently boasts an impressive 162, which puts him one above Gary Bailey in the club's table.
