Dentist who treated Firmino, Klopp and Mane talks about fixing their smile

Should Liverpool win the Premier League or Champions League this season, the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Jurgen Klopp will be thankful for the work of Robbie Hughes when they pose for a photograph alongside silverware.

Hughes is the dentist who has fixed up the smile of numerous members of the Liverpool team.

He first worked with former Reds defender Martin Skrtel after a training ground accident left him needing dental treatment.

Lucas Leiva noticed the improvement and soon went along himself - and duly told Roberto Firmino about his experience.

'Roberto just wanted a new smile,' Hughes told the BBC, explaining that he had to go above and beyond for the Brazil forward.

'When it comes to choosing colour we have shades 4, 3, 2, 1 with one being the whitest. Roberto has seen the chart and asked for "maximo" - beyond one! We created that colour for him.

'Coutinho attended around the same time, it must have been a discussion around the dinner table. Lucas introduced them, they both decided they wanted to do something.'

And it was Firmino's shiny pegs that caught the attention of Klopp, who in turn promptly visited Hughes.

'When Jurgen came to see us he basically said he liked Roberto's teeth,' Hughes said. 'He wouldn't want to go quite as white but he liked his teeth.'

It is a similar tale for Mane.

'Sadio was seeing more and more smiles on the training pitch and wanted a piece of the action,' Hughes joked.

Hughes has also worked with Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and defender Alberto Moreno.

Hughes met Moreno the day of the draw for the Champions League semi-final last season, and says they took a moment to celebrate drawing Roma instead of Manchester City in the final four.

A Liverpool fan, Hughes will undoubtedly be hoping the players he's treated will still be smiling on Sunday night after their hugely anticipated Premier League encounter against Chelsea at Anfield.
