Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria says he was 'not allowed' to perform at his best during his time at the club, hinting that former manager Louis Van Gaal was to blame.
Di Maria spent a season at United between 2014-2015, appearing 32 times for the club. He scored four times in a disappointing season, and left for Paris Saint-Germain after just one year.
At the Ligue 1 Champions, Di Maria has showed the sort of form that persuaded United to buy the Argentinian from Real Madrid. He has 57 goals and 60 assists for PSG in his three years in France.
And ahead of the Champions League last 16 double header between United and PSG, Di Maria has spoken about his time at United, suggesting he was not played to his full potential by manager Louis Van Gaal.
He told France Bleu: "We still have matches before facing Manchester!
"Manchester changed with his new coach, they lost no match. But we must think of ourselves and nothing but ourselves! If we do things well, everything will be fine.
"I only stayed one year, it was not the best time of my career, or rather I was not allowed to spend my best time.
"There were complications with the coach of the time. But thank God, I was able to come to PSG and demonstrate again who I was."
Previewing the Champions League tie, Di Maria said PSG have defied expectations already in the competition, coming through a group alongside Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool and Napoli.
He said: "I think we started the year very well, not so well started in the Champions League but we put the situation right and we finished first of the group.
"But it's complicated, since the draw it was said that it would be difficult to reach the round of 16, we were almost eliminated, but we made a big home game against Liverpool and also against the Red Star of Belgrade , two big decisive matches to qualify."
