Dion Dublin has urged Manchester United to sign Ivan Toney and says the Brentford striker would get ‘even better’ at Old Trafford.

Despite the uncertainty over a potential ban for breaking FA betting rules, Toney has enjoyed another impressive season in west London, scoring 19 goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

The 27-year-old was on target in Brentford’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday as Thomas Frank’s side ended a run of three straight defeats.

Manchester United are expected to sign a new striker this summer after releasing Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in the season and bringing in Wout Weghorst as a short-term solution in January.

The Red Devils have been linked with Tottenham captain Harry Kane and Napoli star Victor Osimhen, but Dublin believes Toney would be a decent alternative.

The former England striker told William Hill: ‘In my opinion he is good enough to go and play for Manchester United, and I think he’d only get better if he went there.

‘Erik ten Hag likes a big striker and they need a proven goal-scorer so maybe they should take a look at Ivan Toney.’

Ex-England manager Sam Allardyce also heaped praise on Toney and said he is surprised a big club hasn’t make a serious move for the Bees striker.

‘Thomas Frank is doing a fantastic job at Brentford and I wonder if a bigger club will come in for him soon,’ Allardyce said.

‘When you look at the likes of Ivan Toney you have to think, why is he not going somewhere else? Why is someone not bidding 80 or 100 million for him?

‘He is awesome. He’s learned how to play in the Premier League and is scoring more goals than ever before. He’s proven now.’
