Crystal Palace opened negotiations with Manchester United over a loan move for Donny van de Beek after Dennis Bergkamp reached out to the London based club, according to reports.

Bergkamp - who is the father of Van de Beek's girlfriend Estelle - contacted his former Arsenal team-mate Patrick Vieira about the Dutch midfielder.

Bergkamp is said to have helped convince the Palace manager to bring Van de Beek to Selhurst Park this month.

Van de Beek is expecting his first child with Bergkamp's daughter later this year. The pair announced the news on Instagram in November 2021.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Bergkamp was eager to help Van de Beek find a new club after failing to cement his place in the Manchester United first-team.

According to Sky Sports, Bergkamp contacted his former Arsenal team-mate, Vieira, over a potential move for Van de Beek.

Vieira is said to be happy with his squad but believes the addition of Van de Beek's European experience could be valuable.

Therefore, he is hoping to complete a loan deal with Manchester United for their out of form midfielder.

Van de Beek has struggled to cement a place in the Manchester United first-XI since arriving at Old Trafford from Ajax in a deal worth £40million in 2020.

Despite a goalscoring debut for the club, the 24-year-old has made just four Premier League starts during his time at Old Trafford.

Having played just 380 minutes of football this season, Van de Beek is said to be looking for more regular pitch time.

Therefore, he is open to the possibility of leave Manchester United to join Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

He will look to build on the two goals and two assists he has registered during his 50 United appearances this term.

Van de Beek will also look to rediscover the form that saw him score become the talisman of the Ajax that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

As it stands, the Dutch midfielder has two-and-a-half years let on his deal with the Red Devils.

United have the option to extend the deal by a further year but his future at the club will be decided when the new manager arrives at the end of the season.
