Match Report
BVB impressed with their clever distribution of space and, despite the compactness of the opponent, repeatedly found passing stations. The ball ran smoothly. After three and a half minutes, it became dangerous for the first time when Adeyemi broke through on the left, but FCH keeper Müller grabbed the cross. In the sixth minute, Groß tried it from 18 meters - the ball went just past the left post.
Dortmund were clearly superior, letting the ball and opponent run. Adeyemi, who was cleared by Groß, played from a half-left position to Malen in the centre, who immediately saved from 16 metres. Keeper Müller's view was obscured, his defensive attempt with his foot sent the ball to the lower edge of the crossbar. After exactly eleven minutes played, Borussia led 1-0 and added a second goal just six minutes later. Ryerson intercepted a pass from Wanner deep in his own half, immediately passed it on to Malen, who played in the centre circle to Brandt, who was positioned further forward, who laid it off to Adeyemi, who in turn scored into the far corner from around eight metres out (17'). That was transition football in a class of its own.
Dortmund had everything under control for a long time, but then allowed themselves the first carelessness after a free-kick cross from the visitors, when Pieringer came free but too unplaced to the header, so that Kobel had no trouble (36th). Three minutes later, right-back Traoré felt no pressure from the opponent, the wide cross landed with Pieringer, who was able to reduce the deficit to 1:2 with his head quite undisturbed. BVB, however, hit back immediately. Again, Ryerson was the starting point. This time he marched to the extended 16-metre line, passed sharply inside, Guirassy cleverly let the ball through, taking an opponent out of the game, so that Adeyemi had a clear path from eleven metres.
It went on smoothly. BVB used the spaces between the Heidenheim defence and the midfield. Adeyemi, played free by Guirassy, had the chance to score his third goal in the 59th minute, but laid it across to Guirassy in the penalty area, who was stopped by two opponents. Conspicuously often, the new nine was sought, with which one could combine remarkably well.
Scienza had a double chance to tie the score again in the 64th minute, but both shots from around 18 metres were blocked, the last by Sabitzer, who had just come on as a substitute, who scored into the opponent's goal himself two minutes later, but during the preparatory work, the ball had obviously jumped not only to Groß's chest, but also to his upper arm. Shortly afterwards, Guirassy failed with a side-kick against Müller (68th), after the following corner kick a Heidenheim player cleared Bensebaini's header just before the line.
Süle's action in the penalty area on Kaufmann, whom he hit at the foot, led to a penalty, which Breunig converted (74th). Beier's shot in the 90th minute was blocked for a corner. After this, Süle came to the finish - just missed. But Traoré's hands were also involved. There was the next penalty, which Can converted safely (90+3).
