Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has spoken about Alexander Isak’s uncertain future at the club, admitting that the striker currently cannot be involved with the team.

The 25-year-old is understood to be unsettled at St James’ Park and is pushing for a move to Premier League champions Liverpool.

Newcastle recently rejected a bid from Liverpool worth a reported £120 million, £30 million less than their asking price for the Sweden international.

As the speculation surrounding his future rages, Isak has been training on his own as Newcastle prepare for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

When asked about Isak’s position at the club following their 2-2 pre-season draw with Espanyol, Howe remained bullish.

“We’ve had discussions and it’s clear at the moment we can’t involve him with the group,” Howe responded. “I don’t know how long that will be for. That’s the latest.

“I’d rather leave it with that line. Discussions between us must remain private but it’s clear that I can’t involve him with the team at the moment.

“He’s here, of course he has a future at Newcastle and from our perspective, everyone at the club would like to see him back with the team. But the situation has to be right for that to happen.”
