Chelsea news: The Blues could be set to see one of their future stars heading for a move to MLS as Real Madrid transfer fails.
Eden Hazard could be set for a shock career move as his Real Madrid future continues to fall flat. Since moving to Spain in the summer of 2019 he has only scored four league goals, making just the three La Liga appearances this season.
The current deal doesn't expire until 2024 but as an outsider to the squad already, Madrid are already holding talks with the player over an exit this summer according to the Express. This comes as no surprise given his rapid decline at Los Blancos, but the next move is less predictable.
Like previous world stars, it is said that a move to MLS could be on the cards for the former Premier League player of the season. As a two-time English champion and one of Chelsea's greatest players it would be remarkable to see him in America so soon after completing one of the all-time best individual years in 2018/19 at Stamford Bridge.
French publication L'Equipe have said that MLS does appeal to the forward and that he could follow in the footsteps of Andrea Pirlo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale and many more in closing out their careers with a new project in the States.
The player himself admitted that a mid-season move was always off the table, saying in December, "I have one more year and I have to show [what I can do] but it isn't easy. I'm not playing, I want to play more. I'm really sorry about what has happened.
"In January it's impossible [to leave], because I have family and I like the city."
With injury troubles halting his career there would be extreme similarities with Bale's own move after leaving Spain. Although the Chelsea fairytale return may be off the table there will still be room for a miraculous late revival of Hazard.
