Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has insisted that he doesn't support Tommy Robinson after posing for a photo with the far right extremist.

An image was circulated on social media of Ederson with Robinson in Manchester.

The image was posted by Danny Thomas, @ RealDannyTommo, and was accompanied by the caption: 'Tommy Robinson meeting city's golden boy @edersonmoraes93 last night, has his full support while in Manchester.'

However, Ederson subsequently stated that he didn't know who Robinson was, with the Brazilian making it clear that he doesn't support the 36-year-old's political beliefs.

Writing on Twitter, Ederson explained that Robinson stopped him for a picture.

Ederson wrote: 'People have made me aware of who this guy is. I definitely not support this guy or his ideas. He just stopped me for a picture. I had no idea who he was' (do not be a liar).'

Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is a co-founder, former spokesman and former leader of the English Defence League.

Between 2004 and 2005 Robinson was a member of the British National Party.

Robinson has served as a political adviser to the leader of the UK Independence Party, Gerard Batten, since November 2018.

Brazil international Ederson made the switch to English football in 2017 when he joined City from Benfica.
