Arsenal transfer news: Benjamin Pavard is one option for Mikel Arteta and Edu to bring to Emirates Stadium as a replacement for Jurrien Timber
One of those possible chances could arrive at right-back with Arsenal sure to be considering their options after the severity of Jurrien Timber's knee injury was revealed. The 22-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in the victory over Nottingham Forest with surgery required meaning he will miss the majority of the 2023/24 season.
With talks advancing for him to join Inter Milan, which included a bid worth €25million (£21.4million) being submitted but rejected, Pavard still looks set to leave despite claims he has chosen to stay in Munich. After being left on the bench for the Bundesliga opener on Friday against Werder Bremen, Pavard started the friendly against Weinbeisser Kaltern the following day and netted the opening goal.
However, he was far from impressed with minimal emotion on his face when celebrating with his team-mates. A departure for Pavard does seem likely, but Arsenal will have to work quickly if they want to hijack Inter's plans.
"Deal on. We are still negotiating with Bayern," club CEO Giuseppe Marotta said as quoted by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. “Player’s will is crucial and he wants to join Inter. Bayern need a replacement to let him leave, this is the issue. But talks are ongoing."
After seeing their first offer turned down, an improved bid worth €35million (£29.9million) is in the pipeline informing Edu how much he may need to pay to welcome Pavard as a possible Jurrien Timber replacement.
