Emerson’s Tottenham stint
Tottenham would sign Emerson Royal from FC Barcelona on transfer deadline day.
The Brazilian is believed to have set Spurs back €30m, and was also said to have attracted interest from Spurs’ north London rivals, Arsenal, over the summer:
Since making the switch to Tottenham, Emerson has not had the best of times.
The right-back featured for 90 minutes vs Crystal Palace on his debut, coming in for heavy criticism from fans as his new side went on to lose 3-0.
Emerson would also start in the Lilywhites’ 3-0 loss to Chelsea, before being brought on at half-time as Tottenham lost 3-1 vs Arsenal in their last league outing.
Emerson’s guarantee to Tottenham fans
Emerson’s last appearance would come off the bench vs Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, with the defender no doubt keen to be backing the starting line-up this weekend vs Aston Villa.
Before that game, Emerson has spoken out about moving to Spurs. When doing so, the full-back issued a guarantee to supporters that he will give his all to help drive the club back where it belongs:
“I know I’ve moved to a massive club in the biggest league in world football. This is an excellent team, full of good professionals, and it’s a team that is capable of competing and finishing high up in the table.
“This is what the project means to me. I have the desire to develop at this club and they have made me feel wanted. I’m very grateful to them for bringing me here.
“I can guarantee supporters that I will give my all to help drive the club back to where I feel it belongs – in the top positions, as well as in cup competitions.”
