England fans boycott baguettes and cancel croissants as France are now enemies

  /  Stamfordblue

England supporters have begun their boycott of all things French in the build-up to the bumper World Cup quarter-final which takes place on Saturday (December 10).

From baguettes to croissants, Three Lions fans want to distance themselves from the customs of their European neighbours before Gareth Southgate goes head-to-head with Didier Deschamps in Qatar.

Heading straight to social media following England's convincing 3-0 win over Senegal, which followed France's win over Poland, the theme was consistent.

A second said: "Anyone in England caught eating a baguette, croissant or pain au chocolat from now until next Saturday should be chucked in jail."

A third agreed: "Right lads, it's War. No Baguettes from now on, No Croissiants, and don't you even f***ing dare look at Macarons."

A fourth concluded: "Just bashed about all the croissants in Sainsbury's.. into em England."

England go into the game feeling confident as the highest scorers in the tournament, but very aware of the threat posed by one player in particular.

Kylian Mbappe has scored five goals so far in Qatar to take his total World Cup tally to nine from just 11 fixtures while aged just 23, but Southgate's side has been boosted by the return to fitness of Kyle Walker.

England have plenty of reasons to be optimistic before their clash against the reigning world champions, including the young talent of Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden.

Southgate said of France after Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Saka were on target in the round of 16: "In terms of France, it's the biggest test we could face.

"They're world champions with an incredible depth of talent and outstanding individual players. They're very difficult to play against and score goals against, so it's a fantastic challenge and a brilliant game to prepare for."

The clash goes ahead at 7pm GMT on December 10, with the winner going into a semi-final against either Morocco or Spain and either Portugal or Switzerland.
