England fans love Maguire's thinly-veiled dig at Vydra

England ace Harry Maguire had the last laugh after being identified as a weak link by Czech Republic striker Matej Vydra in the build-up to Friday's game at Wembley.

Leicester centre back Maguire played the full 90 minutes as England cruised to a 5-0 win and began their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign in style.

The match certainly did not got to plan for Burnley forward Vydra, who said earlier in the week: '(England's) attack is very strong. Defence, I don't say it's not strong as well, but it's not as strong as the attack.

'For example, Maguire. We talked about him at Burnley before we played against Leicester. In some moments it seems he doesn't know what's happening behind him, that's why he got a red card after five minutes in the match against Burnley.'

Raheem Sterling was England's hero on Friday with three goals. And Maguire congratulated the Manchester City star in a post-match tweet, but it was his choice of accompanying photograph which caused a stir online.

Maguire shared an ITV screengrab showing himself and Vydra during Friday's match. It captured a moment after he had narrowly beaten Vydra to a loose ball and cleared powerfully upfield, with the force of his kick sending the striker flying into the air.

Alongside the provocative picture, Maguire wrote: 'Job done. Professional performance from the lads. Congrats to @sterling7 on the hat trick'.

Maguire's choice of image was not lost on many England fans, who expressed their approval by commenting.

One wrote: 'Sore in the morning, Vydra. Smashed him Harry nice 1 pal'.

Another added: 'Love it Harry! Doesn't look like our weak link! Bossed it tonight.'

And Charlton fan Josh Fawdry chipped in with: 'Yes Slabhead!!'

Next up for Maguire and England is a trip to Montenegro on Monday.
