England stars lap up glorious weather in first training session back

Summer has finally arrived and it seems that Gareth Southgate's men really enjoyed the glorious weather in their first training session ahead of next month's UEFA Nations League finals.

However, the England boss only saw 12 of his 27-man squad walk through the doors at St George's Park training centre on Tuesday afternoon with several of his men set to join at later dates.

Declan Rice, James Ward-Prowse, Marcus Rashford and Callum Wilson were all in attendance for the session where they were put through their paces while enjoying little exhibition games against each other.

Southampton's Nathan Redmond, who has one England cap to his name, also returned to the set-up after receiving a call-up from Southgate last week.

Three Lions captain Harry Kane was absent for the session along with his Tottenham team-mates as they all continue to prepare for the Champions League final on June 1.

The same goes for Liverpool's three English players, with Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold all out in Marbella as Jurgen Klopp's men enjoy some warm-weather training before taking on Spurs in the European showpiece in Madrid.

The same reason applies for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley, who will be with the Chelsea squad until the conclusion of the Europa League final on May 29.

England players involved in the Europa League and Champions League finals will report on June 3.

Manchester City's English contingent will also join their compatriots later on this week after being given time to celebrate their successes in the FA Cup and Premier League.

The other absentee is Jadon Sancho who is set to return to England around the same time as the City players.

Sancho has enjoyed a stellar season with Borussia Dortmund with the Bunesliga season coming to a close on Saturday.

England will attempt to lift their first competitive trophy since 1966 when they take on Holland in the Nations League semi-finals on June 6.

A win against the Dutch will put England into the final against the winners of Portugal and Switzerland.
