Erik ten Hag told two reasons why Jadon Sancho return to Man Utd won't work

Jadon Sancho's return to Manchester United to play under Erik ten Hag just won't work, according to ex-Red Devils striker Louis Saha.

Ten Hag will now be at United's helm until 2026 after his contract was extended. And with the public falling out the two endured in September, which resulted in Sancho's return on loan to Borussia Dortmund last January, a reunion would be awkward.

Sancho's contract expires in 2026, with the now very unlikely option for another year. Considering also that United have slapped a £40million price tag on him, there's no guarantee he will leave this summer.

However, former United striker Saha believes that Sancho's homecoming would be a lose-lose situation and that all the bridges leading back to Old Trafford are burned.

The reported £40million that United want for Sancho would see the club lose out significantly, as they paid Dortmund £73million for the winger just three years ago.

However, a summer exodus is ongoing at United amid reports that every player bar Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, and Rasmus Hojlund is available for sale. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co are seemingly fine with biting the bullet in offloading a lot of expensive purchases, and Sancho may very well become one of those names who exits the club.

Saha believes that his exit is best for both parties, citing the sheer pressure that the recently-extended Ten Hag is under as the primary reason why the return would be a poor idea.

Saha was speaking to Paddy Power, and said: “Even if Erik ten Hag considered bringing him back into the team, I doubt it would work because if he starts playing well, people will say that ten Hag should have brought him in earlier. But if he doesn’t play well, then people will say that he shouldn’t have brought him back.

“The Jadon Sancho situation is horrible for everybody. As a Man United fan, you want to see the best players and most talented players on the pitch and Sancho is definitely one of those players that can disrupt the opposition.

"But, since he signed, he hasn’t performed regularly, and it’s been going on for months now so it's time to find the solution for everybody. We want to see him go somewhere he’s playing, scoring and enjoying his football, wherever it is he wants to go.

"I’m sad because I really like him when he’s in form, but it hasn’t happened for him at United. It’s a very difficult situation to manage and it’s bad for the club because it’s an off-field situation that’s affected things on the pitch.”

The near irreparable state of Sancho's relationship with the Red Devils looks set to bring about a sad end to a move filled with promise. It remains to be seen where the Englishman does end up next should he secure himself a transfer.
