Manchester United summer signing Christian Eriksen has revealed that it was actually his son who picked his squad number upon his arrival at the Old Trafford club.
The No.14 has had a great start to life at Old Trafford and tops the club’s assists chart with six to his name already. United fans hailed his role in the team’s newly-formed midfield trio alongside fellow transfer window recruit Casemiro, and Bruno Fernandes.
The Dane is currently away in Qatar with Denmark for the World Cup but before he made the trip to the Middle East he took questions from fans in a question-and-answer session hosted by club media.
One supporter asked him why he decided to choose the number 14 shirt above the options available and Eriksen explained that it wasn’t actually his decision at all.
“I didn’t pick it, my son picked it!” he revealed. “We had a few options, a few numbers and I wrote him a list of the numbers available, and he picked number 14.”
Another fan then asked how Eriksen has found life in Manchester since making the summer switch from Brentford as a free agent. “It’s been good, I’ve only been here a few months, but it already feels like I’ve been here a lot longer, which is positive,” he said.
“Then you know that you feel at home straight away, which me and my family have done. So, I think we are settling in, getting to know everyone, but also the football style and how people are. It’s been a nice first few months.”
Eriksen scored his first United goal just before the pause in the season for the World Cup, finding the net in the 2-1 Premier League win over Fulham. He also grabbed his latest Reds assist when setting up Alejandro Garnacho for his dramatic stoppage-time winner at Craven Cottage.
