Erling Haaland’s favorite ‘superfood’ is food poisoning risk, warns health agency

Erling Haaland is now a YouTuber, but his inaugural upload has sparked controversy after he revealed an unusual liking for a supposed “superfood”.

The Manchester City striker posted an episode titled ‘Day in the life of a pro footballer’ in which he takes viewers through his daily routine. At one point he heads to a local farm to pick up tomahawk steaks, honey and raw, unpasteurized milk.

Haaland describes raw milk as a “superfood” and claims that it is “good for the stomach, good for the skin, the bones and muscles. That’s why I drink it.” BBC Sport reports that Haaland has a glass of raw milk every morning and after every training session.

However the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) warns that raw milk “may contain harmful bacteria that can cause food poisoning” and advises that the elderly, pregnant women, young children and anyone with a weak immune system should not consumer unpasteurized milk.

“Raw milk may contain food poisoning bacteria, so there are extra checks and hygiene standards for raw drinking milk producers,” says Natasha Smith, FSA deputy director of policy. “While these stricter controls aim to help make sure it’s safer and support consumer choice, it’s important to remember vulnerable people should avoid it.”

In the UK raw milk is legal but it can only be sold direct to consumers by registered raw drinking milk production farms. Without being pasteurized there is an increase risk of harmful bacteria appearing in the milk. But despite warnings about potential contamination, there is no sign that Haaland will be changing his dietary routine anytime soon.
