Erling Haaland breaks Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mohamed Salah scoring record

Unstoppable Erling Haaland has smashed another record after he scored in Manchester City's Champions League demolition of Bayern Munich.

The Norwegian netted his 45th goal of the season in Tuesday night's 3-0 win at the Etihad Stadium, a result that puts one foot in the semi-finals for Pep Guardiola's team.

Haaland's all-competition goals tally is now the most in a single season by a player at a Premier League club.

He surpassed the 44 goals scored by Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2002-03 and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah in 2017-18.

And while both those players required 52 matches to amass so many goals, Haaland has reached the landmark in just 39 games.

The £51million summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund has 30 Premier League goals, 11 in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and one in the EFL Cup.

With City still on course in the first three of those competitions, Haaland could have 13 more games to add to his tally.

Haaland is already City's leading scorer in a single campaign, with his 39th goal of the season last month overtaking a record held by Tommy Johnson since 1929.

He is likely to break the record for the most Premier League goals in a single campaign - not only the one for a 38-game season held by Salah (32), but also the one for a 42-game campaign shared by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole (34).

Haaland may yet beat Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 17 goals in a single Champions League campaign, set in 2013-14, if he adds to his 11 so far.

Pep Guardiola's team could yet win a silverware Treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, matching Manchester United's achievements in 1998-99.

They currently trail league leaders Arsenal by six points but have a game in hand over the Gunners. City resume league action this Saturday evening at home to struggling Leicester City.

Sheffield United await them in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday April 22, with either Man United or Brighton lying in wait in the final.

The return leg of the tie with Bayern is next Wednesday, with either Chelsea or Real Madrid to play in the last four.
