Brendan Rodgers celebrated his birthday on Tuesday but he could not have expected to have received a gift from Jordan Pickford at Goodison Park.
Leicester City had appeared to be running out of ideas in this tussle with Everton when Youri Tielemans took a pot shot in the 67th minute. It didn't carry much power, it wasn't in a difficult area but, somehow, Everton's goalkeeper allowed it to squirm from his grasp and roll over the line.
This has been a season to forget for Pickford, in so many ways, but this latest error could not have come at a worse time. Not only did it cost Everton the chance to charge into the top four, it came in front of England head coach Gareth Southgate, who was on a scouting mission.
What he saw was an absorbing contest, pockmarked by a blunder.
