Sunderland moved back into contention for European qualification and all but extinguished Everton's own hopes of continental football as they came from behind to win 3-1.

Manchester City's FA Cup success means European qualification will go down to eighth place in the Premier League.
Yet Everton failed to grasp their chance in their final home game of the season, as Sunderland roared back at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Merlin Rohl's deflected shot put Everton ahead in the 43rd minute, but a lacklustre Toffees performance was punished in the second half.
Jake O'Brien's error gifted Sunderland an equaliser, as Brian Brobbey held off James Tarkowski and drilled home.
Enzo Le Fee then beat Jordan Pickford in the 81st minute, with Robin Roefs making a fantastic save to deny O'Brien at the other end.
That paved the way for Seamus Coleman, on his final home game for Everton, to make a mistake that allowed Wilson Isidor to sweep home Sunderland's third and send them into ninth place ahead of their final-day clash with Chelsea, while the Toffees dropped to 11th.

Data Debrief: Everton's dip sinks European ambitions
Everton have lost form at the worst possible moment, having now gone six matches without a victory, while they have accrued just 23 points in their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which is two points fewer than they managed in their last campaign at Goodison Park.
David Moyes has lost his last three Premier League meetings with his former sides, with this his heaviest such defeat on home soil since a 3-1 loss to Manchester United with West Ham in December 2020.
Regis Le Bris' Sunderland, meanwhile, have shown fantastic resolve in their first season back in the top-flight since 2017, and they have now gained more points (22) from losing positions than any other side in the division, while it is also the most they have amassed across a single campaign in the competition.
They also managed to pick up three points despite an inferior xG of 0.73 to Everton's 1.07, with all of their three efforts on target resulting in goals.
