Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has emerged as a strong contender to succeed Jesse Marsch as Leeds United’s next boss.
The 50-year old was sacked by Ajax last month and is available to take over immediately with Leeds keen to make an appointment before Saturday's crunch clash with Everton.
Leeds have had little joy in attempts to prise Andoni Iraola from Rayo Vallecano and were rejected by Feyenoord's Arne Slot. West Brom's Carlos Corberan was considered also but chose to sign a longer contract at the Hawthorns.
Schreuder, who was expected at today's game between Leeds and Manchester United at Elland Road, was installed as the bookmakers favourite late on Saturday evening after a flurry of bets.
He took over from Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag last May but was sacked at the end of January after a run of six draws and having failed to win a league game since October.
Ajax installed John Heitinga as caretaker who won his first two games in charge.
Schreuder has vast experience having managed at Bruges, where he won the league, and Hoffenheim while he also worked as assistant to Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.
However, his recent run of results will not enthral Leeds fans as they look for the club to make an inspirational appointment.
