Matteo Guendouzi has had his house robbed while playing for Olympique Marseille on Wednesday, according to reports.

The Ligue 1 side were beaten 2-1 by Bayer Leverkusen at the Stade Velodrome, with the former Arsenal star coming on to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the second half.

But according to French news outlet, La Provence, at around 10:30pm the midfielder's home in Cassis was broken into by burglars who smashed through his bedroom window.

The report says that his partner was inside when the robbers entered the premises, but managed to scare the intruders away, but not before they managed to steal his luxury Rolex which the paper claim is valued at £172,000.

Guendouzi joined the Ligue 1 outfit back in 2022 following a successful loan spell at the club that saw him re-locate from London to the south of France.

Cassis is a scenic resort that is situated just 30km south of Marseille's home stadium on the Mediterranean coast. Several of his Marseille team-mates also live in the area.

The 24-year-old is the latest of several footballers playing in France to have had their houses robbed.

His former Arsenal and Marseille team-mate, Sead Kolasinac had his home in Cassis burgled in January while he too was playing in a French cup tie.

The defenders family were in the house at the time of the robbery, which left his daughter 'traumatized'.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has been troubled by burglars before after he was troubled by a mugger while playing for Arsenal in 2019 after he confronted an individual wielding a knife in London.

The report from La Provence claims that other Marseille players had been robbed in the Cassis area in 2021 but similar incidents have been occurring all over the country for some time.

French intelligence service, Sirasco, claim that '22 footballers in 2021 were the target of criminals'.

PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his girlfriend were reportedly attacked and tied up in their home, in what was a terrifying ordeal.

The burglers managed to make off with £430,000 worth of loot with the pair being taken to hospital to receive care for shock.

His former PSG team-mate, Angel Di Maria was also burgled while playing for the club in 2021, with thieves being given a seven-year prison sentence after they made off with £450,000 worth of goods.
