Former Chelsea starlet Jamal Musiala is at the centre of a tug-of-war between England and Germany.
Musiala, 17, left Chelsea last summer to join Bayern Munich and is now on the verge of making his first-team breakthrough.
The versatile attacking midfielder made his professional debut for Bayern’s second string this month and opened his account on Tuesday in his third appearance, coming off the bench to score twice in a 2-0 win over FSV Zwickau on Tuesday.
Musiala has been training with Bayern’s first-team and is in contention for a place on the Bundesliga leaders’ bench when they host Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.
Musiala currently represents England having previously captained the under-16s and played for the under-17s this season.
Three Lions senior staff are aware of his progress in Germany and are tracking the development of a player earmarked as a potential future international.
In between, though, he also played twice for Germany under-16s and the German FA, excited by the strides he is making, are now plotting to lure Musiala back into their setup.
Stuttgart-born Musiala joined Chelsea in 2011 before moving to Bayern in July 2019, signing a three-year deal.
Bayern were keeping a close eye on the UK market following Jadon Sancho’s move to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017 and believe Musiala could be capable of enjoying similar success in the Bundesliga.
