A former Premier League referee slammed Andy Robertson for his behaviour during Liverpool’s mauling of Manchester United.

On Sunday, Liverpool stunned the football world by battering Erik ten Hag’s rejuvenated United side 7-0 at Anfield.

In the second half in particular Jurgen Klopp’s side demolished United, netting six goals to inflict the Old Trafford club their worst defeat since 1931.

And while much of the talk after the game has been about United’s stunning capitulation a former Premier League referee has laid into Andy Robertson for his time-wasting antics.

Robertson slammed after Liverpool vs Man Utd

Speaking to Football Insider, former Premier League referee Keith Hackett was critical of Robertson, claiming the left-back had feigned a head injury during Liverpool’s game against United.

Sky Sports posted on Twitter a video of Robertson holding his head despite being fouled by a challenge which impacted his torso.

Hackett has urged the Premier League to clamp down on “cheating”, citing the Scotland international’s behaviour.

He said: “It blows my mind, this. It’s damaging the image of the Premier League.

“This is cheating, there’s no other word for it.

“I think the answer here is to get the managers together. They’ve got to put their heads together to do something about this.

“The danger with the faking of head injuries is the lack of medical attention they’re getting at the moment. They’re not in any danger of being taken off.

“With head injuries, we have to take great care, so doctors should be assessing these players while the game is going on.

“That is where the concussion substitutes come in.

“These players should be treated off the field of play if they’re claiming it’s a head injury.”
