Ex-Laporta No 2 Giro: Barca players must make sacrifices; stop being fat cows!

Juame Giro has called on Barcelona's players to help president Joan Laporta ease the club's debt problems.

Giro was part of Laporta's presidential ticket, though left before the final vote.

He told RAC-1: "From what I read, the board is doing everything possible to lower the wage bill. And that, together with the refinancing of the debt, is key to recovering the club.

"But let's not just focus on the current board of directors. We must ask for a point of responsibility from the players. The players, by responsibility and if they want to help the club, they have to make an effort. Just as when there have been fat cows they have earned high salaries despite winning few titles and even suffering serious defeats in Europe. Now they have to make a personal sacrifice.

"And even if they make a sacrifice, they will charge more than a university student with four majors and three languages. You also have to put the focus on the players."

He also said, "The salary mass is not Laporta's fault, it was there already. It eats up all the income that the club has. Salary mass is the cost of sports salaries, with football and sections. And they are salaries and amortizations. Right now I don't know what the club's budget is, but at least 70% will be a salary mass. That is unsustainable . In recent years, and after the sale of Neymar, they began to make renewals with many players in the last stage of their sporting life."
