Former Liverpool and Newcastle striker Andy Carroll smashed in two sensational goals for Reading on Tuesday night - but they did not count.

In the space of just 60 seconds the 33-year-old produced a sublime overhead kick and a crisp chest and volley which would have put his side ahead against Fulham.

Carroll sent an exquisite bicycle kick into the bottom right corner with his left before he controlled another deep cross with a perfectly-cushioned touch on his chest and unleashed a venomous volley with his favoured left into the back of the net.

Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak was left with no chance but two of the most cleanest strikes fans will see were chalked off for offside.

Fans were particularly taken by Carroll's second with one saying: 'Brilliant that second one. Didn't even need to be offside.'

Another Twitter user added: 'That second one!! Gutted for him,' while one supporter wrote: 'If that second goal stood that’s genuinely puskas worthy.'

One fan said: 'If the second one was allowed then it’s goal of the season so far from me. Beaut.'

Both of Carroll's superb strikes were correctly ruled out by the linesman and Reading went on to lose the game 7-0.

Harry Wilson and Aleksandar Mitrovic both scored twice as the visitors ran riot to regain second place and narrow the gap on Championship leaders Bournemouth to one point.

Reading find themselves just above the dreaded drop zone, three points clear of Peterborough United.
