Fan wears demonic Pickford mask – NINE THINGS YOU MISSED

  /  autty

England sealed their place in the  UEFA Nations League semi-final after staging a late comeback to beat Croatia 2-1 at Wembley.

Jesse Lingard came off the bench to score the equalising goal before Harry Kane netted a dramatic winner on Sunday afternoon.

Here, Sportsmail takes a look at the things you may have missed from an eventful game at Wembley...

GOMEZ GETS AWAY WITH ONE

Lady luck appeared to be with the Three Lions on Sunday.

Gareth Southgate's men showed determination and resilience to claw themselves back into the game and win the match but it could have been a different scenario had the officials spotted an infringement in the build up to England's equaliser.

England were awarded a throw-in down the right-hand side which Liverpool's Joe Gomez was tasked with launching into the box.

It was a tactic that led to John Stones winning the initial header before Lingard followed up a blocked  shot from Kane to make it 1-1.

However, footage shows that Gomez committed a foul throw as his foot was over the line when he sent in set play.

Thankfully for Southgate, it wasn't spotted until after the game when it was all said and done.

'I TOLD YOU SO' – KLOPP (PROBABLY)

While Gomez may have committed a foul throw in the build up to England's equaliser, it proved to be a useful tactic that came good in a big moment.

So somewhere in the north west of England, Jurgen Klopp will likely have a wry smile on his face after proving a lot of his doubters wrong.

The Liverpool boss was laughed at by many for introducing a throw-in specialist in September, a tactic perfected by Rory Delap and Stoke.

It may not be the prettiest way to get a goal but Gomez, and Klopp, proved that it is certainly effective.

STONES LEAVES A MARK ON KALINIC

As Harry Kane scored the winning goal for England on Sunday, the cameras were pointed solely on the skipper as he ran to the corner flag to celebrate.

After watching replays back of the goal, defender John Stones can be seen hurtling into Croatia goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic as Kane prods home the winner.

Giving Stones the benefit of the doubt, it appears the Manchester City man is trying to follow up any rebounds but instead clumsily clatters into Kalinic as a result.

Regardless of intent, fans on social media have been lapping up the incident after England's 2-1 win.

THE LEICESTER CONNECTION

Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard and Andrej Kramaric  – what do these players have in common?

If you said they're professional footballers, then you'd be correct but not what we were looking for. The actual answer is that  all three of the goalscorers on Sunday have turned out for Leicester at some point in their career.

Kane and Lingard enjoyed brief spells on loan at the King Power while Kramaric was a part of Leicester's Premier League-winning squad but was ineligible for a medal as he barely featured.

And to top it all off, Foxes left back Ben Chilwell whipped in the cross for Kane to prod home the winner.

WRIGHT SHOWS HIS SUPPORT

Former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright is known for being a huge supporter of the national team.

He is often stubborn in his defence of the Three Lions  but it's refreshing to see someone's unrelenting support of England.

While 'Wrighty' was on media duties, the footballer-turned-pundit couldn't hide his excitement as he shouted 'EN-GER-LAND' after manically laughing in his seat.

Never change, Ian.

PICKFORD HORROR SHOW

Halloween may have just been and gone but that didn't stop one young fan from wearing a creepy-looking Jordan Pickford mask with the eyes cut out.

England's No 1 has certainly become a fan favourite since his heroics at the World Cup and it showed on Sunday as the young supporter wore his hand-made mask at Wembley.

However, while applauding the creative effort that was put into making the mask, the goalkeeper looked slightly demonic with both eyes cut out.

FANS LOSE COUNT OF HOW MANY TOUCHES KRAMARIC HAD

Croatia took the lead on Sunday after Andrej Kramaric scored  with the help of an Eric Dier deflection.

The visitors took advantage of England's high-line and counter attacked Southgate's defence before Kramaric found himself inside the box with the ball at his feet.

England did well to get back and put bodies behind the ball as Kramaric twisted and turned several times in an attempted to get a shot off.

The chance to score seemed to take forever before it eventually looped over a helpless Jordan Pickford in goal.

Fans on social media were critical of the defending from England while others lost count at the amount of touches the Hoffenheim man took before scoring.

ENGLAND HAVE THE LAST LAUGH

Dejan Lovren has been making the news this week after saying the song 'Football's Coming Home' made he and his team-mates angry before their World Cup semi-final with England.

The Liverpool defender perceived the famous song as a lack of respect from the English and said they had a point to prove ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash.

On this occasion, however, it was England who came out on top much to the dismay of Lovren and his Croatia team-mates.

The cherry on the cake of this impressive comeback win was when the song that riled up Lovren and Co was played out on the Wembley PA system for all to hear immediately after the final whistle.

'I THOUGHT YOU ONLY SCORED BANGERS?'

Jesse Lingard has built quite the reputation for scoring spectacular goals at Wembley.

The Manchester United attacker scored a superb goal against USA in midweek to add to his repertoire of fine strikes inside the national stadium.

And while he did once again score in front of the Wembley faithful, it was merely a simple, but important, tap-in late on.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek playfully pointed this out by saying he thought he only scored 'bangers'.

Lets hope Lingard can keep scoring those important and stylish goals for the Three Lions.
