Cristiano Ronaldo produced one of the all-time great Champions League performances on Tuesday night to secure an improbable comeback for Juventus.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner single-handedly dragged Juve through to the quarter-finals after scoring a hat-trick in the second leg to overturn Atletico Madrid's two-goal advantage.

Ronaldo's primary target after earning a £99million move to Turin was to win the Champions League and his heroics at the Allianz have helped Massimiliano Allegri's side take one giant step towards that.

And fans flocked to social media to heap praise on the Portuguese star, with some claiming he had secured his status as the greatest of all time.

One user wrote: 'Cristiano Ronaldo always pays his debts.' While another claimed: 'No one man should have all that power.'

Another simply mocked up a heat map in the shape of a goat to connote that he is the 'greatest of all time'.

And it wasn't just the supporters who were singing Ronaldo's praises. Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, a former team-mate of Ronaldo at Real Madrid, said: 'Amazing Cristiano show.'

The Portugal international has certainly earned the plaudits and Rio Ferdinand, his former colleague at Manchester United, had the highest of praise.

'He’s a living football god,' Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

'It's ridiculous what he's doing. All the records - in the Champions League, he’s got every record you can imagine. He's joint most hat tricks with Messi.

'This goal (first goal) is like Duncan Ferguson in his prime, attacking the ball, leaving the full back in a heap, that's what you call desire.'
