Fans left baffled after United's Twitter congratulate cast of Bohemian Rhapsody

When the cast of Hollywood smash hit Bohemian Rhapsody wake up on Monday morning, they will likely be met by a barrage of congratulatory messages - some expected, and some not.

One of those well-wishes in the latter category will come from Manchester United, who confused fans with a bizarre tweet to the 'cast, crew and staff' of the film just hours after they picked up four gongs at this year's Oscars ceremony.

Of course, the tweet does not come without reason: 20th Century Fox - the creators of the hit film -  are the Official Manchester United Feature Film Partner. Rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

Fans, though, appeared confused by the bizarre message, which read: 'Congratulations to all the cast, crew and staff at 20thCenturyFox, who worked on BoRhapMovie, for winning four awards at the #Oscars last night!'

Among the replies were hundreds of GIFs alongside such phrases as 'no correlation' and 'what does this have to do with football?'

One user added: 'At least someone won the quadruple,' poking fun at United's recent lack of trophy success, not least in the Premier League.

Another Twitter follower turned the tweet into transfer gossip, asking: 'Does this mean we're signing Rami Malek as a back up striker?'

Malek, who played Freddie Mercury in the Bohemian Rhapsody film, beat the likes of Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper to win the Best Actor gong in Hollywood on Sunday night.

For many United fans, it won't be the first time they have seen the official account tweet a 20th Century Fox-related message, though.

In the past, the players and staff have got involved in promotional videos for upcoming movies, including Deadpool and Independence Day: Resurgence.
