Fans left outraged after Gavi wins Kopa Trophy ahead of Bellingham and Musiala

Football fans have slammed the decision to award Barcelona midfielder Gavi the Kopa Trophy, claiming Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala were both more deserving winners.

The Kopa Trophy is given to the best under-21 player on the planet, and was awarded during the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on Monday night.

Gavi got the nod ahead of Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, while Bayern Munich's Musiala finished third and Bellingham came fourth. Fans were having none of it, though, and made their thoughts clear on social media.

'Gavi winning that award ahead of Musiala and Bellingham is the joke of the century,' one supporter claimed on Twitter.

Another fan agreed, adding: 'Gavi winning France Football's Kopa Trophy over Musiala and Bellingham is something I can't even find words for.'

'Bellingham and Musiala got robbed by some cardio fanatic. What a sad state of affairs,' another fan wrote.

Musiala won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich last term, and Bellingham starred in a Borussia Dortmund side that finished second in the table.

He has also established himself at international level for England, and looks almost certain to start for the Three Lions at the World Cup next month.

Meanwhile, Gavi ended last term trophyless with Barcelona, but the 18-year-old still pipped his rivals to the Kopa Trophy.

Some fans felt Bellingham had every right to feel aggrieved at being overlooked.

'You cannot name one thing that Gavi has over Jude Bellingham,' one fan stated.

'I genuinely haven’t seen Gavi do anything, Bellingham got robbed so hard,' another supporter wrote.

Bellingham was also in the running for the award last year, but finished second behind another Barcelona midfield, Pedri.

One fan suggested that there is an unfair bias towards Barcelona and their famed academy, La Masia.

'Bellingham has been robbed two years in a row, in what way shape or form is Gavi better than Jude Bellingham or Musiala, the golden boy is simply a PR award for La Masia graduates,' they wrote.
