Fans have reacted with laughter on social media to a viral video of Newcastle manager Steve Bruce showing an incredible turn of pace while celebrating in the new FIFA 22 game.

The video, which has over 50,000 likes on Twitter, was posted on Thursday morning and shows Bruce celebrating a penalty shootout victory on the game by running out of his technical area - leaving his Newcastle players for dead.

The 60-year-old is not known for his speed at all - even during his playing days for Manchester United - and fans reacted in delight at the unrealistic video.

One fan tweeted: 'I knew FIFA pace was a lie when Steve Bruce out paced the whole Newcastle team'

Another said: 'I see no reason why he's not playing centre back for Newcastle'

One person posted: 'Ahaha never run so fast in his life'

A fourth person said: 'Look at the speed on big Brucey boy'

Meanwhile, another Twitter used said: 'The speed of Bruce - We have found our pacey Centre Back - Who is not afraid to get his head on the block'

Bruce was famously known for his lack of pace during his days as a centre-back during his career which spanned 20 years and nearly 1,000 appearances.

The defender played over 400 times for Manchester United and captained them to their first ever Premier League title in 1992, while he also played for the likes of Gillingham, Norwich and Birmingham. Bruce was never capped by England.

The now-Newcastle manager even made fun of his own lack of pace during his Manchester United days, in a press conference with Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of a Champions League match in IFK Gothenburg in 1994.

A television reporter asked Ferguson in the press conference:  'We think in Sweden that you are a strong team whose weakness is slowness at the centre of defence.'

'Are you talking about me?" Bruce interjected whilst smiling. 'Obviously Swedish people are not very good judges of our game. If you are talking about me, you're probably right.

'But Gary Pallister is the quickest central defender in England, probably one of the quickest in Europe. He's quick, but his partner (Bruce) is verging on slow... they've been saying that for 20 years.'

Fans will be able to make Bruce sprint down onto the St James Park on a regular basis when the new FIFA 22 game comes out on October 1.
