Fans slam Lingard after Utd star puts 'JLingz' branding on bombing tribute

Jesse Lingard has been slammed by Manchester United supporters for his 'classless' message on social media for those killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombings.

Lingard took to Instagram to upload a 'One Love Manchester' photo - now deleted - which included the worker bee symbol that has gone on to symbolise the city.

But fans were quick to notice the addition of his 'JLingz' branding to the tribute and that was soon met with a barrage of abuse from those who felt the addition of a brand lacked respect.

Wednesday marked the two-year anniversary since 22 people were killed at the conclusion of an Ariana Grande concert.

The bombing brought the city together and the worker bee was shared round various platforms online as people reiterated that those who died will never be forgotten.

But Lingard's post was not well received given it was interpreted that the inclusion of branding showed a lack of awareness and respect.

One United fan wrote: 'Jesse Lingard actually used Manchester Arena attack to advertise @Jlingz. No words.'

Another added: 'It is arrogant and pretty childish. Even if he would be good as Ronaldo.

'I admire players who are amazing but don't brag about it and are also decent people off the field.'

There were pockets of United fans who felt the post was not as insensitive as many quickly made out and they tried to defend the player, suggesting too much was being read into the branding's inclusion.

'People that defend him over this are almost as mad,' United fan Ben wrote. 'What is wrong with players? Are they really that much out of touch?'
