Football fans have slammed the muted celebrations from Old Trafford after Marcus Rashford scored to put the Red Devils 2-0 up against Everton.

Bruno Fernandes had already converted from the spot before Rashford stepped up to score past Jordan Pickford.

However, the crowd were muted in their celebrations despite Rashford netting the goal that eventually sealed all three points for Erik ten Hag's side.

The victory saw the home side close the gap to Tottenham in fifth to just three points, with Spurs playing later this weekend.

Despite this, the home fans were not in good cheer for the early kick-off and Premier League viewers noticed the muted celebrations.

'I hope nobody was hurt celebrating hahahaha pathetic is PL isn’t it,' one said.

Another user asked: 'Did the crowd realise it went in??' after Rashford's strike hit the back of the net.

Other supporters labelled the scenes as 'the worst reaction to a goal I've ever seen'.

Another joked that there are 'more celebrations at a funeral'.

Rashford's goalscoring performance was a positive for Man United, but Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney admitted that he didn't have much sympathy for the England international.

When asked if he has much sympathy for Rashford's current struggles to find form, he said: 'Not much to be honest.

'He’s in a privileged position where he is playing for Man United. He is the one player that I believe can get my goal scoring record.

'I hope he does but he needs to hit consistency. He is not having the best of seasons, needs to find some form and become a leader.'

Rooney finalised by suggesting that Rashford could look for a move away from Old Trafford to rediscover his previous good form.

'You have to get ready. He is a Manchester lad and I really hope that he gets back into form and has a long career here,' he continued.

'But maybe he needs to move to another club.'
