Tottenham have found themselves on the receiving end of criticism as fans used the government's new emergency alert system test to mock the north London club after their 6-1 defeat by Newcastle.
The alarm, which sounded at shortly before 3pm, was accompanied by a message which popped up on mobile phones explaining that the siren was a test and people did not need to take any action.
It came during the half-time break when Newcastle lead Tottenham 5-0 after scoring all five goal within the opening 21 minutes to stun the visitors.
At the expense of Tottenham, football fans on social media were quick to bombard the club with jokes and memes.
One fan tweeted: 'Tottenham are losing so bad they triggered an emergency alert'.
Another wrote: 'no way Rishi sent out an emergency alert to the whole country to tell us Tottenham get battered everywhere they go everywhere they goooo'.
'Government Emergency Alert at 3pm not to be confused with the emergency situation for Tottenham', said an Arsenal fan.
A fourth supporter got more creative, writing: 'Did everyone get the Government Emergency Alert today? I got this one. Even the government know.', alongside a photo of an alert which states 'Spurs are s**t'
The Magpies took the lead after 62 seconds when Jacob Murphy turned home a strike on the rebound from Hugo Lloris' save.
Joelinton made it two three minutes later before Murphy added a third with a stunning strike before 10 minutes were on the clock
Alexander Isak then added a fourth and fifth in the space of three minutes as Newcastle made it 5-0 after just 21 minutes.
Tottenham managed to get one back through Harry Kane's solo strike after the break but Callum Wilson came off the bench to add a sixth goal for the hosts after 67 minutes.
The heavy defeat at St James' Park leaves six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with two more games played.
