Fantasy Football a bad call by Canaries as they suffer 4-1 defeat at Liverpool

The record for the heaviest Premier League defeat was Ipswich’s 9-0 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford, in March 1995.

At half-time last night, when they were trailing 4-0, you feared that unwanted record might be heading Norwich’s way instead. The newly-promoted club learned a harsh lesson at Anfield. You cannot go to the home of the champions of Europe and try to play expansive football.

Liverpool love it when teams try to play like that against them. There is a lot to be admired about sticking to your philosophy but you have to be pragmatic, too, and Daniel Farke discovered that here. Norwich will have to adapt the way they play now they are competing with the big boys in the Premier League.

They cannot play fantasy football like this. If you do, you’re asking for trouble. This defeat won’t define Norwich’s season.

After conceding their fourth goal, a lot of fans on Twitter were saying, ‘Well, that’s them down’, as if it’s a certainty. I don’t buy that. Really, it is about how Farke’s side respond.

They looked good up front at times. Marco Stiepermann had chances to score and Teemu Pukki got his goal. They now have to rally together and respond in a positive way.
