Joao Felix's fiery shushing gesture after his goal in the 2-0 win over Villarreal was directed at his own Atletico Madrid team-mate Renan Lodi, after the Brazilian playfully challenged him to end his four-game goal drought.
The young Portuguese forward cut an animated figure after his goal and had many speculating just who was on the end of the taunt during Sunday's emphatic win for Diego Simeone's side.
Having come off the bench in the second half to double Atletico's lead at the Estadio de la Ceramica, Felix quickly turned to the dugouts and put his finger on his lips before launching into a furious rant while his team-mates on the pitch celebrated his goal.
However, just hours after the game, it was revealed that the gesture was aimed at Lodi, who had told the young forward to 'put the batteries in' and start scoring goals for the Spanish league leaders.
Felix failed to score in back-to-back league games against Levante while he failed to score against Cadiz before being struck down with Covid-19 midway through February.
He also struggled to make a goal-scoring impact against Chelsea in the Champions League, leaving close friend Lodi to playfully stoke a fire under him on Sunday.
The pair saw the funny side of the incident on social media after the game, with Lodi revealing that it was in fact him who was on the end of the shushing gesture.
The Brazilian full back wrote on his Instagram story: 'Do not be angry, you said it and you have done it. We are together, brother.'
While it wasn't initially clear who the gesture was aimed at, Atletico boss Simeone insisted he was in favour of the heated celebration, and claimed that he 'loves players that rebel'.
When asked about the gesture, Simeone said: 'We would have to ask him. When it's his turn to speak, ask him. He made a great game, what we needed from him. I love that the players rebel and seek to be strong. It is very important for us,' he said in Movistar.
Later, at a press conference, Simeone added: 'When you have the opportunity to write him a note, you should ask him.
'I will ask him in the next training session and then I will see if I tell you about it.
'We played a great game against a very good team. We suffered, we had passages from being better at the beginning of the second half to the goal and they had dangerous scoring chances with necessity and we got a very important victory.'
The win on Sunday saw Atletico re-establish their five-point gap to Barcelona at the top of the table, who they have a game in hand over.
