Legendary Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos is one of the candidates to take over the coaching post at Fenerbahçe.
Fenerbahçe have been unable to reach an agreement with Joachim Löw to take over as first team coach and according to local media in Turkey, the Süper Lig outfit are weighing up two other candidates for the job. One of the them is Roberto Carlos. The Brazilian, who is currently working as an ambassador for his old club Real Madrid, is the principal candidate should negotiations with Löw fall through completely.
Turkey trip
Roberto Carlos is currently spending the Christmas break back home in Brazil but will probably fly out to Turkey mid-January to watch the Week 21 meeting between Antalyaspor and Fenerbahçe. The ex-Madrid left-back is said to be open to taking on a coaching position in Turkey. If he accepts, it would be his third experience in charge of a Turkish club, following his stints with Sivasspor (from 2012 to 2015) and a six-month stint at Akhisarspor.
A third option for Fenerbahçe if both Löw and Roberto Carlos fall through is another Brazilian - Alex de Souza. The club is believed to have already contacted their former captain to sound him out to see whether he would be willing to return in a coaching capacity. Alex has limited managerial experience however, but did lead Sâo Paulo Under-20s to the final of this year's Brasileiro.
