Liverpool overcame Bayern Munich to book their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals along with Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Spurs, City and Liverpool all eased past their Bundesliga counterparts in their respective last 16 encounters signalling a new era of dominance for English sides in Europe's elite club competition.

Former United defender and BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand believes that the Premier League could start to dominate the European landscape again soon following the demise of German team's in the competition this season.

'We mentioned the cycle before the game and it seems like it's turning in England's favour,' Ferdinand said on BT Sport after the game. 'Four teams have come through. No, it wasn't a great performance from Liverpool. We've seen them play better but at this stage, knockout football is not about performing sometimes.

'It's about coming here and getting a win. Listen, I wouldn't put this Bayern team up there with the teams I've seen over the last five to eight years but it doesn't matter.

'They've still got the history. They've got pedigree and the talent in their team and this Liverpool team came here and won and it's a great sign and [Sadio] Mane was the difference.'

Ferdinand complimented the Senegalese winger for the impact he's made in recent weeks as he scored a brace in Liverpool's emphatic 3-1 win at the Allianz Arena.

'What a fantastic player he's been. [Mohamed] Salah didn't play particularly well but provided a game-defining moment with the pass for the third goal.

'They weren't great across the field but they found a way to get a result and that is a fantastic sign for this team and I'm sure [Jurgen] Klopp will be delighted with that.'
