A late goal from Sergio Cidoncha sealed a point for Jamshedpur FC against Bengaluru FC on Sunday at the Kanteerava Stadium.
The visitors came back from behind twice in the match. Nishu Kumar’s wonder striker gave Bengaluru the lead at the stroke of halftime. 16-year-old striker Gaurav Mukhi restored parity in the match in the 81st minute but Sunil again put Bengaluru in front in the 88th minute. Cindoncha scored from Mario Arques’ pass just seconds before the full-time whistle to earn Jamshedpur crucial away points.
Speaking on his side’s performance, Jamshedpur FC coach Cesar Ferrando said, “We had a big challenge playing against Bengaluru FC. They are a big team. In the first half, we tried to control the game. So we had to take more risks. Overall I think the score is good for us. I am very happy with the mental strength of my team.
“I am happy with the result. We could have scored more goals but this is football. These things happen in football.”
On youngster Australian football legend Tim Cahill’s performance and youngster Gaurav Mukhi’s goal, the coach opined, “This was the first match for (Tim) Cahill. He needs to play. We need to have more pace. We have Gaurav (Mukhi), a young player. We need this kind of players.”
Gaurav was elated to score for his hometown club on debut. He said, “I am very happy to score for Jamshedpur FC. I am happy that I contributed to the team’s performance, which is important.
The young striker credited Tim Cahill for guiding during practice sessions. He said, “Tim (Cahill) helps me a lot during our training sessions.”
