Feyenoord have switched attention to Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson after a loan for Manchester United's Amad Diallo fell through.
Director of football Frank Arnesen is keen to bring in quality from the Premier League to boost his side and has targeted 21-year-old Nelson who has been the subject of enquiries from Crystal Palace.
Arsenal are trying to finalise a new contract for the England U21 international before allowing him to move to Holland.
Feyenoord had been hoping to sign Diallo from United but he picked up a thigh injury training at the weekend and will be out for six weeks.
Arsenal have also been considering an offer from Everton for midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The Goodison club are keen to take the England international on loan with an option to buy.
The 24-year-old has made two appearances for Arsenal this season but has been unable to win a regular spot in Mikel Arteta's starting line up. Everton want him as he can cover at full-back and in his favoured midfield position.
Rafa Benitez remains hopeful of adding Venezuela striker Salomon Rondon from Dalian also.
However, Everton's talks for Porto winger Luis Diaz have hit a stumbling block over valuation which will have a knock-on effect for their hopes of offloading big earner James Rodriguez. AC Milan do retain an interest in the Colombian midfielder, however.
