The current free agent market holds some incredibly talented players.
Premier League clubs do not have long left to get their squads into shape for the upcoming campaign, and if transfer budgets have dried up, then dipping into the free-agent market may suffice.
We've already seen Kylian Mbappe let his contract at PSG wind down this window as he made the blockbuster switch to Champions League holders Real Madrid.
While no player of his quality is available, English clubs can still potentially make some game-changing recruitments. Mirror Football looks at some of the premier free agents still on offer.
Adrien Rabiot
29-year-old Frenchman Adrien Rabiot has long been admired by both United and rivals Liverpool and has found himself without a club this summer.
Arne Slot has yet to make his first signing in charge of the Reds, but the midfield has been highlighted as a position of weakness. With rumours swirling that they may be in for Rabiot, the French ace could become the first recruit of a new era.
United themselves have long admired PSG's Manuel Ugarte but could head in for Rabiot, who played over 200 games for both PSG and Juventus, should they prefer a cheaper option.
Mario Hermoso
Long-time Atletico Madrid centre-half Mario Hermoso is without a club and, at 29, would still make for a solid defensive signing if a Premier League club were to take a gamble on him.
The Spaniard is one of a range of notable Atletico exits this summer and caught the interest of Ten Hag's United. However, with the Red Devils having secured moves for £58m Frenchman Leny Yoro and the imminently arriving Matthijs de Ligt, a new centre-back is no longer needed.
Hermoso won the league with Atletico in 2021 and played 174 times for the Spanish outfit before rejecting a new contract this year and choosing to leave the club. Clubs in Italy and his native Spain are interested in the defender, so any English club would have to compete for his signature.
Memphis Depay
Another Atletico player whose contract was left to wind down this summer is former United and Barcelona player Memphis Depay.
The 30-year-old endured a below-par 18 months in Madrid after leaving the Blaugrana and failed to play 45 minutes in 50% of games he was available for - a feat that would have extended his contract by another year.
He hasn't attracted interest from English clubs yet, perhaps due to his assumedly high wage demands. Interest from Italy is the only rumour that has arisen.
Mats Hummels
The World Cup-winning German was once one of Europe's premier defensive stars but is seeking new pastures this summer after departing Borussia Dortmund.
Now 35 years old, Hummels's days of commanding Germany's backline are somewhat past him, as he wasn't selected by Julian Nagelsmann for Euro 2024.
However, a player like Hummels could still prove a valuable asset to any Premier League club. English teams have reportedly shown interest, with Brighton specifically being linked.
Anthony Martial
Once purchased for a fee that made him the world's most expensive teenager, Anthony Martial finally departed Old Trafford this summer after nine years in Manchester.
He had fallen out of favour with Erik ten Hag - the Dutch boss chose to loan him out to Sevilla in 2022 - and he never produced the goods up top, forcing the club to spend big on Rasmus Hojlund.
It has been reported that a return to his native France is the most likely option for Martial, with Lyon linked, but a Premier League club could come in for the attacker if they need a different forward option.
