A luxurious London apartment that has been home to a string of Premier League footballers has emerged for sale for under £2million.

The penthouse property was most recently home to West Ham United defender Patrice Evra after he joined the east London club in 2018. Before that, the three-bed flat housed Hammers striker Andy Carroll and then-teammate Jose Fonte.

Their former home, on the 25th and 26ft floors of Ontario Tower, near East India Docks in East London, is now on the market with estate agents Johns & Co.

It is being sold for £1.85m or is available to rent for £1,750 per week - a fraction of the £90,000 a week Carroll was said to have been earning.

Jay Clarke, lettings manager at Johns & Co, said: 'This particular property is known among our agents as 'the West Ham flat' given who's lived there.

'Their players seem to like it because it's in the same area as a lot of their team meetings and overnight stays in a hotel.

'Whenever it comes on the market there is a lot of interest and we'd expect it to go to some kind of celebrity - most likely a footballer.

'The facilities are fantastic and we've already been taking enquiries from a current member of the West Ham squad.'

The penthouse has an enormous open-plan kitchen and living area and a decked terrace the looks out onto the River Thames and the Millennium Dome.

Two of the three double bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and there are floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the apartment. The new owner will also have access to a gym and swimming pool in the building.
